I hate sports. Of all types. You can pick a sport and say why you hate it.

I guess I enjoy martial arts, though. That's about it.

Otherwise, Football, Baseball, Basketball, Soccer, Hockey, whatever. I hate them all. The leauges make too much money and it's just rediculous how some people are so enthralled with those things.

Seriously, why would you want to watch a bunch of big men run into each other and throw a ball around?

Or watch a bunch of black people (no offense here) toss around an orange ball?

Or watch some steroid junky hit a ball with a stick.

Or watch a bunch of Europeans kick around a black and white ball.

Or watch a bunch of sadists beat the shit out of each other on ice (Okay that is sort of fun. XD) and occasionally hit a black disk into a net.

I suppose I can understand why you would want to PLAY those games, sort of, but I prefer to use my mind instead of my body. (Though I make sure to stay in shape as well as it's important for a healthy mind.)

It's entertainment;you don't need a damn reason.

That said, I dislike most sports and would rather waste my time banging my head to a wall, I do this normally mind you, rather than waste my time watching whatever sport.

Well even martial arts ain't that entertaining. I'd be watching carefully for few minutes, but that's probably it.

I think basketball is a gay. I think footbal/soccer is gay, etcetcetc.

I meant why would you find it entertaining? There needs to be a reason it entertains.

That's a very bad question. Curious, I agree, but the mindless cannot answer something that will break their foundations apart.

It's the same as playing games. At the end of the day when you're asked why you do it, you'll say cause it's fun, but you still feel like there's something missing. It's more or less a filler of the hollow spaces in your heart. Or soul. Or mind, whichever you choose.

Actually, I disagree. I play them because (a lot of people are going to say this is stupid) but it's kinda' like doing math problems. It's like mental gymnastics. You're exercising your mind while you play. Most games today aren't mindless and brain-rotting. You can even learn things from them since many games use plot ideas from real-life occurences. Also, it's like watching a movie. Almost everyone watches movies or a movie. They can be funny, cool, anything.

So is sports. Yeah, this is a pointless argument, especially since were both on the same side.

It's like two bricks debating if the wood was made of metal.

That's true.. I just think that video games actually provide a valid source of entertainment. I mean, with your viewpoint, we could say that about anything. I say it's just sports.

I also prefer the term debate. =P I think we're on good terms. Or I hope so.

Sai

More or less, I'd say.

Video games are more of training for me. If it's barely challenging and I'm playing it, it's probably the story I'm playing for.

So I take it that you also dislike the Olympics? I actually dislike watching sports on television, but like to partake in them. So far in life this is what I've done:

Kickboxing
Muay Thai
Karate
Grappling/Wrestling
Gymnastics
Bowling *Team*
Tennis *Team*
Baseball *Team*
Football *Team*

Of course I've done others, but those are things that were above a hobby...

I would say that you dislike how people are getting paid to to play games that children play for free, but it's just like being a gladiator in ancient times. You compete, and the better you are the more fame and glory you achieve. It's all about being in the spotlight nowadays, we highlight these athletes...

I have to say though, I don't hate sports because I love how physical and competitive they are. When I was in high school it was all about playing these games to prove that you were better then everyone else... I'm sure others can agree!

Partake != Take part
Partake involves eating, iirc. Consult an actual dictionary for this, not google.

But yeah, were pretty much the same. If it's challenging then I'll try and compete whatever sport it is. Not for the fame though. I am someone who continually tests himself. It's like I don't feel alive when I'm not doing something dangerous or really hard. I want to test and apply my skills.

I don't like sports for 3 reasons

1. I suck at them.

2.You get hurt.

3. It's humilating for me to even try.

4.It takes up time on Tv that should be for my shows.

wait...that's 4..well, whatever, i still don't like em and never will.

No, Doreo, I actually like the Olympics. Why? Well, it's one of the only things that brings the entire world together in a moment of peace. It's where we all go to compete and to have fun. I find it very refreshing and very positive.

Sai

Does not really happen during the olympics. Well maybe on the stadium, and divided into particualr groups.

But that same logic can be applied with watching normal sports.

Except between states... Sort of. It's more serious when it's nations. At national games people beat the crap out of each other over stuff like that and yell and are rowdy. At the Olympics, it's a positive atmosphere. And even though it doesn't bring absolute peace, it helps promote it and provides an amount of cvility. It's a good thing.

I am aware we got in a bit of a scrap with Russia, but I believe that part of the reason they gave up was because of the Olympics being held.

I hate Football "American"
I hate Basketball
I hate Baseball
I hate Golf
I hate Bowling
I should probably just say what I like it would take up less space combat sports everything from BJJ to full rules Muay Thai and Hockey can deal with Tennis and Soccer.

The atmosphere is much more peaceful but within each's mind are darker thoughts.

It's better I guess.

Football ain't really that great. I was a player back in highschool though, I joined cause I wanted to train my leg, in kicking to be precise.
Basketball is fucking gay.
Baseball is pretty lol, but I'd like to try hitting a ball once, maybe twice.
Golf sounds kinda nice, though when I think to deep to it, it's pretty shitty in itself.
Bowling is nice when I'm playing. It's shit when I'm watching people bowl just cause I like bowling and shit.
The only nice thing in hockey is the ice skating part, nothing more.
Martial arts sounds pretty cool, but it gets boring. It's just playing around, no real use of talent, skill, power, agility, etc.
I'd rather street fight applying what I've learned with some punk really.

Gonna' say why?I don't like football because I don't really see the point of it or why it is so big here in America. The same goes with Baseball and Basketball plus those two are non contact at least with Football there is hits. As for bowling and golf those aren't sports imo more like games.

Ok, how is martial arts not showcasing talent? All I have to do is mention Bruce Lee! Different types of martial arts specialize in certain aspects but martial arts teaches you the discipline to overcome your limits. I can honestly say that when I took martial arts, I got faster, stronger, and I developed skills I never knew I'd gain.

Well I admit there is use of agility and the like, but still the skills. There is lack in it.
It's the difference between actual combat and practice combat. Even if you're serious, the pure killing intent is never there. On most cases anyway.

I guess it's just not extreme enough for me, such and such.

I'm not a psycho murderer or anything, but whenever I fight/fought I always treated it like a life or death situation. I would do what ever it took to win, and in mixed martial arts it can go anywhere. There is no stopping when someone falls, there is no stopping when someone gets a point, etc... That's what I loved about it, I could take the fight anywhere and I would do so in order to win. Trust me, when your a kid (16-17) fighting in the adult division (In which the next youngest competitor was 22) you want to prove a point. I've left fights bloody and bruised, but it was all worth it. I remember when I was going to quit my job in order to fight in the the New Jersey Fight Club just so I could make money by beating the shit out of people... Sadly, I lost the will to fight...:( After a while, you start thinking about why your actually fighting. Then when you actually see that your fighting for others entertainment and for no other apparent reason, it kind of loses its value. Now I'm onto acrobatics/parkour, and I guess that pretty fun and challenging.

If I'm told to play sports then I'll play no matter what sport it is. Though watching sports is just gay, why it is so is explained in what the first post in this thread. Though, I'd like to learn a couple of martial arts, I've been watching a little too much of Kenichi(anime) anyways.

Hmm, thinking of taking up kendo, and get awesome blisters on my feet.

Actually this was when I was doing mixed martial arts, now I'm in kickboxing and grappling. That's pretty much what I did after I stopped competing in tournaments... I would say the period where I learned the most was after mma, but now I'm trying to look for something that not as American.
(Kickboxing was actually developed in America do to the strict rules on safety with asian martial arts, because we americans love fighting and want to make it as violent and entertaining as possible) So basically I'm looked for true martial arts, just pure tradition.

I actually want to take tai chi, I've done only one class and thought it was really great so I'll probably do that. It's so calming and energizing!

I understand your reasoning behind not liking sports, but I don't think there's one simple answer for liking them.

But one of the reasons I love watching basketball (which is really the only sport I truly watch) is I think because I love to play it. When you see guys doing what you love to do, and just see it at such an intense and advanced level, it's like watching people live out your dreams!

My favorite player is Allen Iverson, mainly because he's the same size as me. While he does have freakish stamina and speed, still just watching him do things that I know I could do (not nowhere near as good mind you), and be able to dominate... It's just so fun! Plus getting to yell in anger at the T.V. for an evening, what's not to love?

meh.. It's hard to describe really, but I was trying to say it's not anywhere near as simple as you make it seem in your original post (albeit you were clearly exaggerating the point).

But I guess it's just like everything else. Some people are just drawn to certain things, while others may hate them. Like for me personally, I can't stand most heavy metal music, but I actually like listening to some country music...

I like sports...

But I HATE sports fanatics more than anything. Nothing is wrong with wanting to play a little with friends (or even compete), but, DAMN, back off people sports doesn't matter one little bit in anything. No need to riot, or fight, or argue that sports rock. Let me relax and have fun. Yea, I’m not the best, but so what, relax the fuck out. So people can chase a ball down a field quicker than me, I can think better then a lot of people. In twenty years I’ll still be able to think, whereas most major athletes will have health problems and bad knees. So take that sports people.

Maybe not as close to the 'hate thread' as it could be, but so what.

I love playing football. I can't stand liking a single NFL team, though. It's all too fake. Once you play it, things seem different. College is the best though. That's honest football. Playing it? Man it is fun. Just being able to crush guys, get all your frustration out on someone, is the best.

I hate that the new york yankees in american baseball, now have an over 400 million dollar budget, when a team like the brewers has 30 million. This is INSANITY, how is this remotely a competition for teams like that, their only chance at winning is to get really good rookies.

American athletes are a bunch of spoiled babies. They get sweet ridiculously high-paying jobs right out of school. They never have to grow up and everything is handed to them. It's outrageous.

awraith13

I don’t like most sports, but I think you are wrong about that.

Depending on the sport it can be true. (I think mostly with baseball.) American Football can cause serious harm; and for both American Football and Basketball it is usually best to start out by playing with college teams, not right out of high school. Most players aren’t paid multi-millions only the big stars.

As with any group of people some are asses, some are nice, some are stupid, some are smart.

I do, however, think that sports players make a disproportionate amount of money to their societal worth. But it also happens around the world and not just America, and there are babied sports players everywhere as well.

Your statement was ignorant.

Someone has to offer a counter argument in the sports hate thread every now and again.
