I really hate dubs. I mean ferseriously. God, on some anime... No scratch that, on a lot of anime, they freakin ruin it with their voices!! The people who dub it must be deaf!! I can only agree that only a few dubs are good. One of such Is Shadow Skill.

I've only found a few good dubs. I actually think I enjoyed Full Metal Alchemist better dubbed than subbed. Death Note needed the subs, because the dub was awful...
Cowboy Bebop wasn't bad. .hack//SIGN wasn't bad at all... I actually enjoyed it a lot. Trigun's another one that turned out well. Though I do admit, those are big animes that a lot of people watch and therefore have the budge to get good voice actors.
Bad voice acting is almost like a bullet to the face. Ruin the whole show for me, whydontcha?

I like a few dubs, the one that comes to mind is Rurouni Kenshin, the voice of the protagonist (Kenshin) sounded awful in Japanese imo. I did go through both the sub and the manga eventually out of boredom and found it was also one of the few dubs that sticks very close to the story.
In general though I must agree with you, dubs tend to kill shows, a prime example being One Piece. The Manga is one of the most popular of all time in Japan (outranking Naruto there I believe) and yet you don't get so much name recognition here in the states; the reason being that the dub absolutely slaughters it. Not only are the voices ridiculous (especially in the 4kids version) but the story is watered down to where it is just plain stupid.

Best dub in my opinion would be Hellsing. Crispin Freeman sounds damn badass as Alucard.

I have said this before
i don't mind dubs but the english translation of techniques can be painful to hear
Knowing the Japanese technique name makes it even more horrid to hear it translated

I must agree. Then again, I do find that I enjoy most of Crispin's dub work to be honest. I also like a lot of Chris Patton's work as well.
With the exception of Full Metal Panic! and RahXephon (only because Patton did the main character's voices for both of those and the supporting cast was pretty good too) I'd rather watch everything in subs.

Personally, I prefer some dubs over the original voice cast. Its mostlikely that its because I understand english more and that I saw the anime in english first. Thusly (if that's even a word) due to my watching it in english first it seems much more natural to me. From what I've seen with my fellow anime watchers that I know and live with this seems to be the case.
But like most, I usually prefer the sub over the dub anyday. *cough* purikyua.*cough*

What I noticed about dubs
If the series is very long, they hire bad actors so they don't have to pay alot to them
BUT!
if the series is short, they may hire very good actors to do a great job.
but in my opinion... i hate dub. hahaha

I think out of most of the publishers, ADV has a good cast of voice actors. But that even has its extent. I just personally stick to subs and leave it at that.

I agree. After watching all of FMA in dub.. managed to get the series in subs.. and it is a totally different story, can not take it serious.
nobody seems to be able to capture the essence of Light or his evil "i win" voice.
The worst dubbing I have heard is Ah! my goddess... you can't help but laugh at Bell's voice.

I prefer the original speech with subtitles to get along.
You are mostly right about dubs, they suck :/

I dont usually mind dubbs but i do prefer subs. When i get the chance i try to watch the sub, dub and read the manga just because im a nerd that way. there are a few good dub's but overall America sucks at dubbing.

i think dubs have gotten better over the years. i used to be die hard SUB ONLY and hated dubs with a passion. but i have to admit that there are a lot of good dubs out there. wolf's rain is one of my favorite. i think the voice actors fit perfectly. ^_^

Some dubbed anime are pretty good. I think that its slowly getting better as the demand for it rises.

I personally find a lot of the newer dubs laughable... Most of the time the tone infliction is all wrong (hint - when a person says something with a straight face, generally you don't waver your sentence like a valley girl...) and the actors voices are too childish to actually believe in...
Generally I've found, though, that if you began watching a series with subs you prefer it that way... (I generally don't watch anime on TV anymore cause I can DL it faster and a few files have both english and japanese...)
But the WORST dubbing of all has to be Chinese dubbing, to any of you who have listened to grainy microphones capturing the horrible voice of luffy (codename "the announcer") in Chinese I feel your pain...

C'mon I've tried watching Elfen Lied with subs and I didn't prefer it that way.

I did say Generally... not all subs are better... and usually its when you originally started watching an anime with subs...
Also I love watching comedies in Japanese, because geanerally some inferred part of Japanese culture has to be explained by the sub-team. Usually its not something you'd realize even if you were Japanese!

I would have to say that the dub for Zero's Familiar is going to suck because they are using all newcomers with little dubbing experience even though Cristina Vee is dubbing in it, its going to be a fail but i hope im proven wrong.

I tolerate dubs but i generally watch it with subtitles. but i think you kinda side with what you originally see. One of my friends prefers dubs because he originally saw anime that way. The strange thing is now he wants to start learning japenese.
Yeah i thought he'd go watch a dub and then a few minutes later try to find the japense words for what he heard. I told him it just won't work that well but hes stubborn.

Personally I try to avoid dubs whenever I can. I have watched a few decent ones though.
For subs I always go for fansubs stuff. They always do a better job at translating and localization the animes.

I prefer dubs myself. not the horrible ones that make you wanna stab yourself in the ears but the decent ones like hellsing and a few others. I mainly like dubs that keep the original animations together. don't censor it, Its good as it is. I like the sight of blood and boobs (but not necessarily at the same time). Don't cut stuff out of good animes.
